Boris Efros (1914-2001) is a Jewish surgeon, PhD, a pioneer of cardiopulmonary, lung and esophageal surgery in Lithuania. He felt a strong penchant for music, but in 1939 he became a fan of music. Graduated from Vytautas Magnus University in 2000. Immediately started working as a surgeon at Kaunas Jewish Hospital. After escaping the Holocaust and surviving exile, he returned to Lithuania, upgraded his professional skills, and was slowly approaching his greatest professional achievement, the first successful heart surgery that he underwent in 1958. performed at the then Vilnius Railway Hospital. The first patient survived 25 years. Soon the doctor counted dozens of patients who had recovered from this difficult operation. B. Ephros used and implemented practically the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic methods at the time. His work to date is very important for the development of cardiac surgery in Lithuania. A brilliant specialist who has performed over 12,000 different surgeries on his own, has trained dozens of young surgeons to operate.
